January Tea Selections + Chocolate!

We’re starting things off right at dose this year with a some fabulous new tea selections and a great new chocolate from artisan chocolatier Ritual Chocolate.

For our January Tea Selections, we have two teas from a new source, SerendipiTea:

  • Guatemala “Chirrepeco” – Black Tea
First off, it’s a tea from Guatemala, which is pretty cool considering how many great coffees we’ve had from there. Second, it’s really good. Smooth and medium bodied with some nice sweetness, this is a black tea worth enjoying sans cream and sugar.
  • Darjeeling “Makaibari Estate” – White Tea
An incredible offering from the Darjeeling region of India, typically known for its black teas. This organically grown tea is beautifullyprepared and steeps up a sweetly fragrant cup with subtle fruit notes.

This 75% dark chocolate bar is nothin’ but cocoa beans and cane sugar and Ritual’s taste descriptors are right on: “High notes of blackberry, earthy undertones and a long, floral finish.”
Ritual also just received mention in the Jan/Feb issue of Imbibe Magazine, which also happens to be available at dose :)

Happy New Year!

33 Cups of Coffee

20111221-194900.jpg

20111221-194929.jpgJust in time for Christmas, we have a great little coffee tasting journal titled “33 Cups of Coffee.” It is beautifully designed by Dave Seldon, a beer and beverage nerd who runs 33books.com out of Portland, Oregon.

The book pretty much speaks for itself. It allows you to track the most important information regarding your gustatory journey through coffee and fits perfectly in your pocket. What more could you want?

If that doesn’t satisfy your last-minute gift-giving cravings, we have fresh shipments of coffee from the holy-trinity of coffee roasters (PT’s Coffee, Intelligentsia, and Counter Culture) on our shelves by the end of Thursday – not to mention the new shipment of 4 single-origin chocolates from Askinosie… And Dose travel mugs… And Stump TeaPots…. Ok, I’m done! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Askinosie Chocolate

20111121-111656.jpg

We’ve profiled Askinosie Chocolate before, but we really just can’t get enough of their incredible chocolate – not to mention the awesome packaging and business model. They, like many of the specialty coffee roasters we now buy from, are building direct relationships with the cocoa farmers at origin. One taste of their chocolate confirms that this not only makes for good business practices, but for a great product as well.

We currently have three single-origin dark chocolate bars from Askinosie on our shelves:

  • San Jose Del Tambo,Ecuador
    Taste Notes:
Bright bergamot, red raspberry, and cardamom with long lasting citrus notes.
  • Cortés, Honduras
Taste Notes: Intriguing bursts of citrus, molasses, peach skin, cinnamon, cedar, and tobacco. Vibrant and tart with a warming bite.
  • Tenende, Tanzania
Taste Notes: Lingering layers of sweet fruit preserves, oats, and strawberry cheesecake met with red wine tannins and an ultra creamy mouthfeel.

These bars are so tasty they could almost be the dessert for a minimalist Thanksgiving, and their award-winning packaging needs no wrapping for a holiday gift! $8/bar (85g/3oz)

New Lunch Menu + Much more!

After a lot of hard work (and tasting), we have rolled out a redesigned lunch menu that is now available 7 days a week, from open until 5pm! In addition to our delicious made-to-order sandwiches, we are now serving fresh small plates and salads as well.

We’re also welcoming the return of single-origin artisan chocolate bars from Askinosie Chocolate in Springfield, MO and a whole slew of new coffees from PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. out of Topeka, KS

It all adds up to a great start to the fall, and there much more to come!
