Bagel Face Bakery is a new, locally owned and operated, artisan bagel shop located in East Nashville’s burgeoning Riverside Village. They hand-roll and boil their bagels, and use an authentic “slow, cold fermentation” process as well. The result is a fantastically balanced texture and flavor.

Check it out next time your in, and don’t forget to try them as a bagel-sandwich on Saturday or Sunday mornings!

Join our neighbors, Gran Cru Fine Wine & Spirits, at dose for a sampling of their hand-selected, Single Barrel bourbon from Four Roses distillery.

On hand will be Master Distiller of Four Roses, Jim Rutedge. He will be answering questions on his award winning whiskey and signing this unique and limited bottling.

Here’s their description of this coffee:
“Cherry preserves start this layered cup with a pleasant tartness, but not far behind are the sweet flavors of raisin, plum, and a textured, buttery mouthfeel. Baked apples and cinnamon lead the finish of this beautiful coffee.”

Intelligentsia, for those who aren’t familiar with the company, has been a pioneer in the specialty coffee industry over the past 15 years. They were one of the first to market and develop their coffee offerings around the Direct Trade model (working directly with coffee producers), and acknowledge publicly the seasonality of coffee in relation to its quality.

Additionally, they have been very successful with their own coffee bars in Chicago and Los Angeles. In fact, one of their baristas, Michael Phillips, recently won the World Barista Championship in London! For the home viewers keeping track, this is the first time the United States has won the competition. Congrats Mike!

Like our other featured coffees, Finca San Jose will only be around for a limited time and will be brewed exclusively via Aeropress. Also available by-the-bag.

Fortunately, Humphreys Street has just started bringing in new crop Tanzanian A “Hope Project.” It’s a coffee whose story combines sustainability with quality  – which we think is a winning combination. It’s also a nice change up from the heavier bodied Indonesians and well-balanced (but perhaps “middle-of-the-road”) Central American coffees we’ve enjoyed so far this year.

For anyone who just can’t get enough coffee, and wants to do a little something to support the Nashville community this next Thursday evening (the 27th), we’re participating in the Rosettas for Relief latte art competition at Bongo Java East.

The guys from Beve Mobile Coffee will be out, serving a select menu of drinks in exchange for donations to Hands on Nashville, and Chef John from Fido will be there with an array of finger foods. Of course the evening will revolve mostly around the Latte Art Competition, in which baristas from around the city will pour a design of their choice for judges.

Normally this is a “winner takes the pot” type scenario, but this special edition will have all the entry fees going to charity as well.

Please be conscious and do what you can to conserve water for the next few days until water treatment facilities are brought back to normal!

Coffee was first introduced to Java by Dutch traders, via India, around 1700. It quickly spread from there to Sumatra, the Celebes (Sulawesi), Timor, and Bali. Papua New Guinea, however, didn’t see the introduction of coffee until the early 1900′s.

Generally, coffees from this region have medium to full body and low acidity. Flavor notes can range from chocolate and spice to fruity and wine-like.

We will be tasting Humphreys Street Coffee’s Sulawesi Toraja, Counter Culture Coffee’s Tambul (Papua New Guinea), and one more special guest coffee from the area (I’m thinking dry processed + Bali…. but we’ll see
